Independent Living

Independent LivingWe understand that during acute phases of illness individuals lose or forget skills necessary for independent living. As individuals increase understanding of their illness and their own unique recovery process, we assist in the transition to successful independent living. We assist individuals in regaining skills in areas of self care, healthy meal preparation, finances and social relationships.

Beverly has been living in a supportive living environment as her symptoms of mental illness had increased. She has had difficulty in living on her own as she often ate poorly and had difficulty with paying her bills consistently. Beverly would also isolate which intensified her feelings of loneliness and lack of support.

Treatment

Beverly’s treatment plan would consist of teaching her cooking and shopping skills.  Begin to identify how to read and interpret food labels and recipes.  Teaching money management and banking skills, and developing coping strategies to control impulsive spending.

Outcome

Beverly has learned skills to allow her to live independently with minimal support.
